How do I book?
There are four ways to book: By phone at 613-212-4828, by email at info@ottawaarttherapy.ca, by completing the contact form on our website or using our booking link directly https://art.janeapp.com/.
Our general suggestion is to book a consultation with a therapist that interests you by phone or via video call, which can be done using the booking link or by contacting our admin. Our admin will gather some information about your concerns, let you know how long the wait will be to see a therapist, and will reach out to book appointments with the appropriate therapist when the time comes.
Do you allow animals in your centres?
We maintain a "No Pets" policy, but certified service animals assisting individuals with disabilities are always welcome
What happens during the session?
Each session varies but usually involves art making or another creative process based on the specific goals developed for the individual or group during the free initial consultation. For more details, please visit our services page.
How long are sessions and are they in-person or online?
Therapy sessions typically last for one hour. A wellness check-in lasts 25 minutes and free consultations are 15 minutes. We offer sevices both in-person and online, initial consultations can be used to discuss what format is best for you. Some exceptions based on each therapist, contact for more details.
Do you offer psychological assessments?
We do not offer psychological assessments at this time.
Does insurance cover your services?
Many private extended health insurance plans cover meetings with registered psychotherapists, both fully licensed and qualifying. If you are unsure about your coverage, contact your insurance provider to ask about the details of your coverage.
Are student therapists covered by insurance?
All student therapists provide the same level of treatment/care. They are eligible for insurance under their supervisor (all details included in your receipt).
Do you provide letters of support?
We do! With consent from our clients and when clinically appropriate, our therapists can provide report writing and letters of support. This can include treatment
summaries, accomodations for stress leave/medical leave/academic leave, support for funding and adjusting work responsibilities. At this time we do not provide letters or mediation for custody

How do you track progress?
We set long term and short term goals with our clients and/or families and review these regularly.
What does OAT charge for their sessions?
There are a number of session packages available to suit each individual’s need. Please see our pricing page. For funded sessions, we will contact you and the organization funding your sessions for more details. We offer direct billing through insurance, credit cards can be added to Jane profiles for automatic charges, cash/cheques left in our deposit box or e-transfer to our automatic OAT banking (jvlaming@ottawaarttherapy.ca).

Do I need to stay at your centres while my child is in session?
Children under 14 must not be left unattended. Parent or guardians must stay with the child until handed off to the therapist. Late pick up fees may also apply if parent/guardian is late for pick up.
Is there a waiting area?
Yes! At our East End location, we have a very cozy waiting room with a great couch, chairs and a play space for any children waiting with you. Occasionally we use this room for sessions, however, clients are notified if the room is busy. We also offer boot covers and slippers to stay cozy. Additionally we even offer tea, juice water and fun snacks (peanut free).
At our West End location, we have a great waiting room when entering our clinic, with seating to keep you comfortable while you wait for sessions.
In general, we request keeping loud noises to a minimum, phones silenced and taking calls outside if possible (Athlone has the option to close the waiting room door as well). We kindly ask if you bring any food in yourself that it is nut free/allergy friendly. During fall/winter months, we have shoe trays for wet boots!
Is OAT a scent free space?
Yes both locations are scent free. Occasionally we have a diffuser with essential oils or candle on, however, ask that scented products are not used within the buildings.
Does OAT offer on site Wi-Fi?
Unfortunately neither locations offer Wi-Fi at this time, but appreciate you checking in with us.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes, all staff are licensed (students can be excluded from this as they are not required to be licensed to practice during placement) and insured to practice.
Is OAT a crisis centre?
No, neither locations are crisis centres. If you need immediate assistance please call 911, take yourself to the nearest hospital, see your family doctor or check our resources page for crisis lines.
Does OAT offer any other services?
We offer a variety of Alternative Mental Health Practices and therapeutic skill development options, along with organizational workshops and speaking engagements. Please see our services page for details.
