FAQ

Are there any age or other restrictions?

No. Individuals of any age and ability are welcome. You can check our our team specializations for more information.

What happens during the session?

Each session varies but usually involves art making or another creative process based on the specific goals developed for the individual or group during the free initial consultation. For more details, please visit our services page.

How do you track progress?

We set long term and short term goals with our clients and/or families and review these regularly.

For funded sessions, we will contact you and the organization funding your sessions for more details. We offer direct billing through insurance, credit cards can be added to Jane profiles for automatic charges, cash/cheques left in our deposit box or e-transfer to our automatic OAT banking (jvlaming@ottawaarttherapy.ca).

Do I need to stay at your centres while my child is in session?

Children under 14 must not be left unattended. Parent or guardians must stay with the child until handed off to the therapist. Late pick up fees may also apply if parent/guardian is late for pick up.

Is there a waiting area?

Yes! At our East End location, we have a very cozy waiting room with a great couch, chairs and a play space for any children waiting with you. Occasionally we use this room for sessions, however, clients are notified if the room is busy. We also offer boot covers and slippers to stay cozy. Additionally we even offer tea, juice water and fun snacks (peanut free).

At our West End location, we have a great waiting room when entering our clinic, with seating to keep you comfortable while you wait for sessions.

In general, we request keeping loud noises to a minimum, phones silenced and taking calls outside if possible (Athlone has the option to close the waiting room door as well). We kindly ask if you bring any food in yourself that it is nut free/allergy friendly. During fall/winter months, we have shoe trays for wet boots!

Is OAT a scent free space?

Yes both locations are scent free. Occasionally we have a diffuser on with essential oils, however, ask that scented products are not used within the buildings.

Does OAT offer on site Wi-Fi?

Unfortunately neither locations offer Wi-Fi at this time, but appreciate you checking in with us.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes, all staff are licensed (students can be excluded from this as they are not required to be licensed to practice during placement) and must be insured to practice.

Is OAT a crisis centre?

No, neither locations are crisis centres. If you need immediate assistance please call 911, take yourself to the nearest hospital, see your family doctor or check our resources page for crisis lines.

Does OAT offer any other services?
